Big Day

Miss Eva had quite the big day today.

She has now gone over the 4lb. mark! As of this morning, she weighs 4lbs. 2oz.!! And if that's not enough, she decided she'd go ahead and take her 8:00am feeding with a bottle. No, not just try it and take a little, but she took her whole feeding. Yes, this is the first time she's been offered a bottle, and obviously, she's been wondering what's been taking so long, as she also had her 5:00pm feeding this way, too. She's on her way.

Here's our sleeping beauty this afternoon.

One Month Old

Happy One Month to you, Miss Eva.

We can't believe you've been here for a month. You've changed so much in this short time. You've gotten bigger and stronger and continue to do everything that the doctors want you to do. So many times we've been told you're a superstar. We absolutely agree! We can hardly wait til you come home.

Some highlights:
Miss Eva is up to 3lbs. 12oz!! That 4lb. mark is right around the corner. Yeah!!

Some of that preemie clothes is really starting to fit now. The sleeves don't need to be folded and those little toes are actually starting to reach the bottom of the outfits--especially when Eva stretches.

Eva's hair is getting thicker and longer. Her nurse today thought perhaps she might need a visit to the salon soon!

Miss Eva has moved rooms. The NICU is set up in pods, each with several rooms. We didn't realize what a nice room Eva had for the first four weeks. We had a lovely view of Pikes Peak from the recliner where we spent many hours. On Friday Eva was moved to a different pod and the room she's in now has no window and has a completely different feel. We assumed all of the rooms were as nice as the one she was in. We were WRONG!! Apparently it's not unusual for babies to be moved around as some are discharged and others come in. They move babies to balance the nursing load in each pod.

Moving On Up

Miss Eva moved from her isolette to a "crib" today! When I went in this morning, she was in her new digs. So she's sleeping in the same kind of bed that full-term newborns sleep in. Her nurse today, Monica, whom we loooove, called her a big girl this morning. After all, she is 4 weeks old today!!

Like a Weed

Eva Grace hit the 3lb 7oz mark today! We can see some of the changes in her sweet face that's getting a little more round, and those little legs and arms that are getting fuller. We're also fairly certain that she's getting more hair, too!

Heating Things Up

For the last few days Miss Eva has been hanging out in her isolette with the "lid" lifted up. This is great news--it means she's able to keep herself warm!

It actually started when she had been laying on Calvin's chest one evening. After we left and they did her usual 3 hour check, which includes taking her temperature, she was warmer than she should have been. When we called in the morning, her nurse said they had tried to get her temp down all night (she was only slightly warmer than normal; it wasn't fever-type temps). So we thought her daddy had overheated her and might need to find another way to hold her. As it turns out, they eventually turned the heat down in her isolette and then opened it up, and since then she just kinda went with it and has been enjoying her open-air isolette. We think she was just on the verge of being able to keep herself warm, and Calvin just provided that extra little push. (completely mommy and daddy diagnosis--absolutley no medical basis on this theory!!)

Little Hand, Big Outfit

We love how this picture caught Eva Grace with her eyes open and how it shows how tiny her hands are--gripping the tip of my thumb.

When we picked out these preemie outfits (thank you, Nana!) they looked so tiny. Well, you can see how it's still a bit big on Eva Grace. We think it's funny how she has that look on her face like the lights are too bright and she's about to say something. She's really quite expressive.

Superbowl Sunday

Here's our Little Miss on Superbowl Sunday. She didn't really care who won, but we were kinda rooting for the underdog Cardinals.

I love how she has her hands like a proper little lady would.
